Angela James is the Lead Organizer for Empower Hampton Roads. Her organizing career extends over 13 years. Angela began as a congregational leader in her community in St. Paul, MN and decided that this was a true extension of her faith journey and changed her career after 25 years in retail management to become a faith based organizer.
She has led many issue campaigns during her career which have impacted the lives of hundreds of people. Issues like jobs for central city residents of St. Paul, MN, Transportation for residents of Milwaukee to access jobs in other communities and organizing for safer neighborhoods in Racine, WI.
Angela is a native of Houston Texas and spent the last 16 years in the Midwestern states of Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Empower Hampton Roads hired Angela in the late summer of 2003 where she is currently taking the organization through an exciting campaign for regional equity with the primary focus on mixed income housing and inclusionary zoning ordinances.
She is mother of three children and the
