DEMOCRACY DAY preparation concludes the exciting first day.

The excitement will continue to build as over 600 leaders and Organizers join us for DEMOCRACY DAY!

our Faith and Democracy Campaign continues with

DEMOCRACY DAY

GAMALIEL BUSES WILL CONVERGE AROUND THE CAPITAL MALL TO JOIN THE
Gamaliel National Clergy Caucus in a New Orleans style funeral procession as they deliver a casket symbolizing the death of old ways of providing health care and pray for a new day for health care in America. This action will be held at  a national insurance provider. Health care is Gamaliel's newly adopted national issue. By this time we will be joined by over 100 leaders from other organizing groups from across the country.

Then the busses will be boarded once again for travel to the U.S. Capitol. The excitement continues to grow and we are joined by 100's of other leaders from Gamaliel affiliates who have been traveling all night to participate in Democracy Day as we disembark at the Capital Steps for the

Just and Humane Immigration Reform Press Conference

Then a hundred teams will spread across capital hill for visits for pre-arranged visits to the offices of our congressional delegations and other Washington allies. There our Faith and Democracy Campaign Conversation continue based on the values of the Faith and Democracy Platform. Almost every congressional office will receive a Faith and Democracy Campaign Visit.

Now our excitment reaches a crescendo as our numbers swell to just over 2,000 for the

3 o'clock "Realizing the Promise" A Forum on Community, Faith and Democracy at the Washington Hilton.  Our numbers will swell to over 2000 as we are joined by leaders from 300 other organizations and the Gamaliel Foundation co-sponsor for this event the Center for Community Change.

What is now clear is that a former Gamaliel Organizer President-Elect Obama harnessed the power of community organizing to rise to our nation's highest political office.

He could not have done it unless he was joined by everyday people on the ground organizing for change. We are still organizing for change. Over 2,000 leaders and their organizers are coming to DC to help shape the agenda for Congress and the new Administration.

Realizing The Promise is an unprecedented opportunity for real, everyday people to have a voice in shaping public policy in our country.  During the forum, community leaders will speak directly with elected officials, allies, and transition team representatives  about the issues that matter most for all of us and the policies and solutions we need to make America work for all of us.

Because REALIZING THE PROMISE WILL BE WEB CAST, other leaders, allies, funders, and organizers at home will be able to participate with us. click this link to www.realizingthepromise.org to view the streaming video. We would like to invite you to organize a gathering to view and discuss the forum. It is important that our Faith and Democracy Campaign conversations continue, not only in Washington, DC but in hundreds of communities across our country. This is an extraordinary opportunity for people in our neighborhoods to find their voices, to stand and to speak for the change that must happen if our nation is again to find its soul and live out our hope for justice.
