HOW WE WORK TOGETHER

The purpose of Gamaliel.org is to use the Internet to support the Gamaliel Network and its affiliates in moving national, regional, and local issues. THIS ONE PURPOSE TAKES PRIORITY OVER ALL WEB DESIGN ISSUES.

Gamaliel.org intended to be a peoples’ web.  This site has been designed so that anyone who can type and is interested can use the web to support the moving of metro-equity issues, organizational, and congregational development.

We use Microsoft FrontPage to edit this Website because this software enables a person with no web programming experience to manage a web site that will support the work of their Gamaliel affiliate.

Gamaliel.org is a PC based web. Microsoft FrontPage is not available for Apple computers.

Gamaliel.org is a server-based web. All pages are created on the remote server only. Gamaliel.org is a pre-published site to which affiliates may add content including as many new pages as necessary to support the work or their organization.

This eliminates the need for the installation of a web server and the installation of FrontPage extensions on the affiliates computer.

Front page is not fully functional unless its pages are being edited on a server with FrontPage extensions installed. Affiliate Websites may be edited using FrontPage 2000 or FrontPage 2002. Since Microsoft no longer sells FrontPage 2000, the instructions provided for webmasters are for FrontPage 2002.

No publishing (FTP) software is needed except FrontPage.

Organizations who want to test page designs before they become visible to the general public, may request a web test folder by contacting the Gamaliel Director of Communication.

Gamaliel.org is designed to host the websites of each and every Gamaliel affiliate. Each affiliated component is provided with fully designed and linked 16 page a starter website, including a new page template. This website is ready to be given content that relates to the affiliate's history and work.

The outline of the recommended content for these pages represents basic information that well organized Gamaliel affiliates will want to share with their constituents, prospects, funders, and with other affiliates.

Every organization is strongly urged to supply this basic information before adding other content.

All persons who wish to give content to a Gamaliel Affiliate Website must register with the Gamaliel Director of Communication by phone. The Director of Communication’s phone numbers are provided online at Gamaliel.org/ Webmaster found on the lower navigation bar.

Since keeping the content of affiliate websites current is a significant goal, it recommended that more than one person in each affiliates be prepared to given content to the organization’s site. The organization’s web master coordinates the responsibilities of these people.

Before this phone call the Webmaster or web worker should have access to an IBM compatible computer with FrontPage 2002 and the most current version of Microsoft Internet Explorer installed. It is very helpful if a text file containing content to be given to the affiliates web is available. It is also helpful if the webmaster can access the Internet and speak on a telephone at the same time.

During this phone call the following with happen:

1.     The web worker will receive the user name and password necessary to edit their web using FrontPage.

2.     The web worker will learn to:

·        give text content to web pages.

·        add pictures

·        Link pages to the world wide web, Gamaliel.org and e-majl

Gamaliel.org intends to be a powerful national web presence for the entire Gamaliel network. That is why we have made it possible for all Gamaliel website to maintain their websites on a single web. This enables the use of a search routine that makes it easy for affiliates to share materials as they move issues and to foster congregational development.
