Your Vote Is Your Voice

One of the privileges we value is our American right to vote. On election day, the Tuesday after the first Monday in November, registered voters in the United States cast their votes. This year November 7th is the day we exercise our fundamental right of citizens to vote.
The consequences of not exercising the right to vote are enormous. You vote with the majority whether they share your values or not. People are elected who have no mandate from you to respect your values.
In the Gamaliel Foundation we are fighting to preserve and to expand the
values of opportunity housing, transportation, health care, quality
education, the rights of immigrants, jobs, and care for the earth.
When we do not exercise our right to vote it is very likely that public policy will be at war with our core values. In fact, today it is often the case that our core values are not the values being acted upon by our politicians in Washington D.C. nor in state and local government.
Not exercising our right to vote allows those in power to diminish the common good.
To insure that we utilize the vote as a powerful tool to defend and protect our people and our communities, a number of steps must be taken:
- We must be registered to vote. In many states the voter registration deadline is approaching. If your address has changed since the last time you voted, you must re-register to vote on November 7th.
- We must educate ourselves regarding the issues facing our nation, our state and our local community.
- We must vote on election day.
Now is the time to make sure that we are registered to vote.

The Gamaliel Foundation is a nonpartisan not-for-profit foundation committed to empowering ordinary people to effectively participate in the political, environmental, social and economic decisions affecting their lives. Encouraging people to register, educate themselves, and vote is one way to participate effectively.
