GOTV Intern Program
As part of its election efforts, Gamaliel has begun a new VR/GOTV paid intern
program. Ten Gamaliel interns have collected already registered new 5,604
voters, mostly African-Americans and immigrant citizens, in the first month of
the program. In mid-July, five interns gathered 200 cards, four averaged
250. The interns are on pace to register 22,000 new voters. Another 8,000 are
expected through other Gamaliel efforts, for a total of at least 30,000.
Gamaliel interns are placed in Chicago, IL; Pittsburgh, PA, St. Louis, MO; Gary,
IN; Baltimore, MD; Oakland, CA; Detroit and Saginaw, MI; and Cincinnati and
Cleveland, OH.
PLEASE HOLD NANCY FREELAND IN YOUR PRAYERS
We have received word that Nancy Freeland's (VOICE-Buffalo) step father
Melvin Suttle died very peacefully on Monday afternoon. Bill O'Brien
reports that Nancy really appreciates any of our prayers. She is very concerned
about her Mother who is not well either.
Susan Bowels reports that he did not suffer a long and hard letting go. The
folks from her Mom's church came to the house and prayed with them on Sunday and
he died the next day.
There will be a wake at 10:00 am, followed by the service at 11:00 on Friday
August 6th. This will all take place at Edison Street Baptist Church 28 Edison
St., Buffalo NY.
REFLECTION FROM GREGORY GALLUZZO...
A year and a half ago we began the Rolling Thunder Campaign. We stated at that
time that we wanted immigration to part of the national debate. Last year we
committed ourselves to an aggressive voter registration and GOTV plan. There are
many in this country that believe that this election will be one of the most
important for many years. I am glad that we are in the middle of things.
