candidate forum is May 24 Should Wisconsin embrace community-based treatment programs, with rewards for participation and sanctions for breaking the rules, as an alternative to incarceration for non-violent drug and alcohol offenders? No issue divides the candidates for state attorney general more clearly than this one, with Paul Bucher and Kathleen Falk in particular staking out opposing positions. SOPHIA has invited them to discuss the matter along with other candidates at a forum set for May 24 at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Waukesha. Attorney general candidates Bucher, Falk and JB Van Hollen have accepted SOPHIA’s invitation to attend the event. Waukesha County district attorney candidates Dennis Krueger and Brad Schimel have also agreed to participate. Incumbent attorney general Peg Lautenschlager has not yet committed. SOPHIA’s goal in organizing this meeting is to facilitate a thoughtful debate on public policy while acknowledging the community values of peace and justice. Although SOPHIA favors treatment alternatives, it is also committed to hearing all sides of the issue in a fair and respectful manner that supports good decision-making in the public policy arena. Join us for this important event! May 24, 2006 7:00-8:30 p.m. Christ the Servant Lutheran Church W250 S3635 Center Road Waukesha posted 5/12/06 |
