SOPHIA is...

a congregation based organizing group...

The basic building blocks of SOPHIA are its member congregations. Each member church supports SOPHIA by mobilizing a "core team" of volunteers who: - conduct "one-on-one" interviews to discover issues of concern to their fellow congregants;
- bring those concerns back to SOPHIA for possible action on a county-wide basis; and
- communicate the SOPHIA story to all who wish to listen, both inside and outside of their "home" churches.
Member congregations also support SOPHIA by paying dues to cover operating costs. |

WISDOM provides training in the techniques of congregation-based organizing: - one-on-one conversations with fellow church members to identify the values and concerns that are central to their lives;
- narrowing broad concerns down to manageable initiatives that can be accomplished within a reasonable time-frame; and
- creating action opportunities that will get the attention of public officials, and others, who have the power to make change happen.
