Housing Victory
Since it very first public meeting Empower
Hampton Roads fought to increase workforce housing.
As of May, a new house in
Virginia Beach
cost on average about $533,000, while an existing home was priced at
nearly $350,000.
The work-force housing program is meant to
provide more homeowner opportunities for those earning between
$36,000 and $76,000. The program also is expected to increase the
city's rental inventory, including for residents earning about
$27,000 annually
