November 25, 2002
Dear Gamaliel Leaders, Organizers and Allies,
Greetings. You are registered to participate in the 7th Annual Gamaliel National Leadership Assembly, December 5-7, 2002 in Merrillville, Indiana. We request that all participants are checked-in at the Radisson Star Plaza by 2:OOpm on Thursday December 5th. Gamaliel will have a registration near the main lobby. Opening Worship begins promptly at 3:OOPM. We continue to build the new civil rights movement to address race and class inequities in our midst. This year's theme, "Eyes on. the Prize: Coalitions To Win Metro Equity connects the struggles of all people to live in democracy with freedom and prosperity. It also reminds us that organized resistance is consistent with the way true Americans respond to systemic oppression and injustice. We have not yet arrived in the promised land. And so the struggle continues. And we proceed powerfully with our allies, from all sectors. We don't have to do it alone. For the first time in Gamaliel history we are embarking on a nationally coordinated strategy, where all Gamaliel Affiliates work toward one national issue -- the Civil Rights of Immigrants. The Gamailel NLA Board will also call for the creation of the African American Leadership Commission to address the critical lack of African American leadership and staff in network. Also this year there will also be Gamaliel wide committees established out of the Transportation Equity and National Housing Trust Fund Workshops.
Preparations for NLA are as follows:
