"EYES ON THE PRIZE: Coalitions to Win Metro Equity"
"Eyes on the Prize" is a spiritual theme
which became the title for a well known chronicle of the modern
civil rights movement. "Eyes on the Prize" recalls the struggle, all
struggles for liberation. "Eyes on the Prize" reminds us that
organized resistance is consistent with the way true Americans
respond to injustice and oppression. And "Eyes on the Prize" reminds
us that we have not yet arrived in the promised land.
Eyes on the Prize: Coalitions to Win Metropolitan Equity is the
2002 NLA's clarion call for all people of faith and powerful allies
to support social, economic, and political equity across entrenched
special and racial boundaries. "Eyes on the Prize" means doing
the hard work of building massive multi-religious coalitions that
challenge oppressive power throughout America's metropolitan
regions. "Eyes on the Prize" means creating a movement to deliver on
the promise of the American Dream.
The Board of Directors of the 2002 Gamaliel Foundation's National
Leadership Assemble invites you to assemble in Merrillville,
Indiana, (America's Heartland"), December 5-7, 2002. Let us renew
our spirits and be renewed in the struggle. Together with our allies
in the movement let us pledge ourselves to keep our "Eyes on the
Prize" of justice and equity for all.
