"A Season of Prayer and Action for Justice after Katrina"
Gamaliel Building Power With National Partners

August 29th is the Two-year anniversary of Katrina!

One year later, the mold continues to grow!
A sign of broken promises of opportunity and safety for our citizens.

Gamaliel continues its call to Federal Representatives meet the needs of displaced people and to welcome their participation in the decisions being made about their lives.

As the one-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina approaches Gamaliel affiliates are encouraged to:

Pray daily for the success of the visit of Gamaliel AALC to the gulf coast August 15-19, 2006.

Observe "A Season of Prayer" in their community the weekend of August 25-27, 2006. The goal is the participation of 1,000 congregation including Gamaliel's partners and allies in the Alliance for Opportunity.

Arrange Board Member visits with their federal representatives.

This is a continued response to a two-fold request from Gamaliel's Leadership Table chairs made in mid-March:

  1. that all the clergy leaders of our member congregations be asked to offer prayer and reflection in their services for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. and

  2. that board member plan visits with their federal representatives and ask them to support legislation that adheres to the following principles:

  • that the federal government help meet the needs of displaced people; and

  • that the people impacted by Hurricane Katrina must participate in the decisions being made about their lives.

Leaders are invited to begin their planning with this visit template.
