"Justice after Katrina"
Gamaliel Building Power With National Partners

The first chapter in Gamaliel's action for Justice after Katrina was:

"A Season of Prayer, Reflection and Action for Justice after Katrina"

At the heart of the season was a a two-fold request from Gamaliel's Leadership Table chairs:

  1. that all the clergy leaders of our member congregations be asked to offer prayer and reflection in their services beginning the weekend of March 3-5 through April 15 for the victims of Hurricane Katrina. and

  2. that board member plan visits with their federal representatives and ask them to support legislation that adheres to the following principles:

  • that the federal government help meet the needs of displaced people; and

  • that the people impacted by Hurricane Katrina must participate in the decisions being made about their lives.

The next chapter may be written by the AALC as they follow up AALC with a bus tour to visit with Katrina survivors.

All Gamaliel organizations are invited to follow up on the suggestions of the Leadership chair whenever they have an opportunity to visit with Federal Representatives.
