ISAIAH's Faith in Democracy: Renewing the Promise Gatherings Seven Faith In Democracy: Renewing the Promise gatherings were held in the Twin Cities metropolitan and St. Cloud regions this past fall. 4,000 people who share a common vision of our society based on our values as people of faith and the promise of democracy attended, as well as more than 200 public officials and candidates for elective office. The gatherings launched our Renewing the Promise campaign, which will see us acting on our values around four major issues during the 2007 Minnesota legislative session – transportation, education, domestic violence, and civil rights for immigrants. Each of the seven gatherings were organized by leaders in the respective ISAIAH regional caucus. While the theme at each gathering was similar, all the meetings also had a decidedly local flavor challenging public officials to take action on a range of issues – from a Saint Paul Living Wage Ordinance to a Minneapolis community benefits agreement for the Harrison neighborhood to expanding Human Rights in the St. Cloud region. The central message of the Faith In Democracy: Renewing the Promise gatherings and campaign is that ISAIAH has a vision for our state that is based on radical hope, inclusive community, and shared abundance for all. We can bring our vision to life through our state government by creating real opportunity for all Minnesotans to participate fully in our shared abundance. We must ensure that our public policy and public investments benefit the many in our community, and effectively remove systemic barriers that shut people out. In 2007, we will push for our vision of opportunity and full participation for all. |
