Clergy Caucus Health Check Up
A proposal from ISAIAH to strengthen
your Clergy Caucus
Basics:
Regular
monthly meetings, preferably with a meal
Send notices with agenda at least a week in advance
Send notices to clergy of congregations being recruited (personal
invitation as well)
Begin and end on time
Theological reflection on the mission and actions of the
organization*
Make assignments to contact clergy who are absent
Purpose/Function of the Clergy Caucus:
Clergy are
the standard bearers of the vision of the organization
Theological reflection is essential to keeping that vision clear
Building peer relationships (sharing joys, struggles,
disappointments, hopes. . .)
An ongoing commitment of clergy to do one-on-ones with each other is
essential to building these relationships.
Recruitment. The Clergy Caucus ensures that a Recruitment Committee
comprised of key clergy is active and effective.
The Caucus meetings are a place to invite clergy of congregations
being recruited.
Plan at least two events annually that will deepen the spiritual
life of the organization (worship service, prayer vigil, biblical
studies, prayer breakfast, etc.)
Share congregational Core Team stories and struggles
Support and develop fundraising activities of the organization
Utilize denominational and judicatory connections to strengthen
organizing efforts
Connect to the Gamaliel National Clergy Caucus (GNCC)
Send
clergy to annual theological trainings of the GNCC ‑‑send
representatives to the annual GNCC meetings
select, with other regional clergy caucuses, a GNCC regional
representative
work with the GNCC regional representative
to strengthen the local Clergy Caucus,
to develop relationships with other clergy caucuses in the
region,
to assist expansion efforts, and
to support emerging metropolitan, regional, and national
strategies and issues
Serve as a sounding board for task force ideas, actions and issues
