A Proposal for Facilitating Stronger CRLCs
throughout the Gamaliel Network

(printable copy)
December 2, 2005

Overview:   A team of trainers (clergy and lay church staff) is being made available to train leaders of Gamaliel affiliates regarding use "agitation tables" to stabilize and deepen the life of Clergy and Religious Leaders' Caucuses (CRLC). The ISAIAH CRLC offers this training so Gamaliel CRLCs (or other Gamaliel groups) can adapt this approach to their own settings.

The training:

o       The Agitation Training Coordinator of ISAIAH will receive requests for agitation table training, and make arrangements for a team of trainers to be available. Contact Keith Olstad at 612/940-1534 or email to: kolstad@mn.rr.com

o       The host affiliate will work with its organizers to solicit leaders for CRLC agitation training, and ensure that every participant has been prepped for the training

o       The typical training will last for 3.5 hours, and will involve the following:

20 minutes         Opening prayer, introduction of participants, introduction of trainers

20 minutes        Brief history of experience with agitation tables, typical structure, administration issues

35 minutes         Quick review of agitation training and the role of making a judgment

12 minutes        Each participant develops a personal report, including personal priority relative to congregation-based organizing for the next year

10 minutes         Break

30 minutes        First agitation table experience, with two trial agitations, with trainers as "staff"

15 minutes         Evaluation of experience, additional teaching about making judgments

10 minutes         Break

35 minutes        Second agitation table experience, with two trial agitations, with trainers as "staff”

13 minutes        Evaluation of experience, final teaching, including review of typical structure and administration issues

10 minutes         Next steps, evaluation of training

o       Trainers write evaluative report of experience within one week of return, and submit the reports both to the affiliate and to the Agitation Training Coordinator.

ISAIAH's agitation training program budget:

Gamaliel affiliates will be expected to pay a $300 honorarium plus travel and hospitality expenses for two agitation trainers, above and beyond expenses for facilities, materials, refreshments, etc.

ISAIAH's self interest in developing this program:

ISAIAH and its CRLC will be strengthened by increasing the stability and longevity of other CRLCs in the Gamaliel network, and will benefit both by developing a training capacity among its leaders and by increasing its own clarity about the role and use of agitation tables within ISAIAH's life.
