Community Organizer St. Louis

MCU St. Louis, a faith based power organization in metropolitan St. Louis, an organization of 80 congregations, has an opening for a Lead Community Organizer. This person is required to have appropriate experience.

Primary responsibility is to continue to build this organization.  Grassroots public influence will stamp out the root causes of poverty and deal with the Metro politics that help to continue the disparity of resources in St. Louis and the surrounding regional communities.

Organizers must have a deep desire to address local and regional societal issues, organize a congregational base, find leaders, and organize people and money to sustain the organization. Must be a self-motivated, systemic thinker and the ability to take risks. The position is not a social service or public relations position.

The candidates for the Lead Organizer must have rich experiences in community organizing, be a person of faith, and have the ability to help manage the MCU organization with financial and organizational development skills.

MCU focus: Transportation, Crime and Drugs, Education, Jobs/Economic Development, Immigration, Youth, Congregational Outreach, Leadership Team Development.

Skills: Knowledge of political process/agenda, political savvy, leadership training, strong communication/writing skills, ability to handle diversity, to build key relationships with the leadership of congregations, developing alliances while remaining independent, promoting a social justice agenda.

The candidate must have a complimentary degree and/or equivalent experience in organizing congregational/community or union organizations, and must be computer literate.

Organizers will be trained by the organization, and will be reviewed in accordance with their related competencies and experiences. A special screening, orientation and training during the week of  November 9 -15, 2003 is mandatory.
