WHAT IS CUSH?
Congregations United
to Serve Humanity (CUSH) is a
coalition of diverse faith communities guided by common values. We
exist to promote social justice through advocacy, education, and by
empowering people, particularly low and moderate income people.
The mission of CUSH
is to:
·
Promote equal access to resources, relief from poverty and promote the
general health and well-being of our community through education and
action;
·
Stimulate new and different efforts to improve our community through
dialogue with public officials and private entities;
·
Create community within and among our faith communities;
·
Promote and be guided by common values in a context that celebrates and
respects our diversity and our varied spiritual traditions;
CUSH Core Teams
CUSH is
currently composed of nine member con-gregations. In each
congregation, a core team of 5-10 representatives serves as the hub for
communication and mobilization for CUSH issues and activities. Core
teams are also encouraged to identify and take action on issues of
interest and urgency to their own members that may not be acted upon by
the whole organization. Core Team Trainings are available.
CUSH Task
Forces
Task
Forces address specific social justice and community concerns, select
issues, and recommend actions and campaigns to the Board. Task
Force issues grow out of the work done at issues conventions. Our
current CUSH Task Forces are: Affordable Housing, Emergency
Assistance, and Safe Schools.
Board of Directors
The
CUSH Board is the primary governance body. It establishes CUSH
policy, makes executive decisions, hires the organizer, and addresses
additional governance needs that may arise. Each congregation
sends at least one member to the CUSH Board which meets once a
month--currently the fourth Thursday of each month.
