What will my congregation gain from joining ACTS?

·        Strategies for building community within and around your congregation.

·        Added leader-training: community building, social action, building the congregation.

·        New and effective ministry for those members who want to work for justice, build power.

·        Effective relationship across racial and city/suburban lines through clergy caucus, lay trainings.

·        Added tool to challenge your lay leaders to build relationships in/around the congregation.

·        Membership in ACTS (Onondaga County) includes membership in Thruway Alliance (Upstate NY) Gamaliel Foundation (a national organization or community organizations like ACTS).

·        Tool to influence quality of life issues in city/county/region and to gain public respect.

·        Relationships with other powerful institutions and leaders.

 

What are the responsibilities of membership?

·        Annual Dues:  $500/yr. min. (payable in quarterly installments); our goal is $1000/yr. average.  Ability to pay is key factor.  We want you to join no matter what your congregation can afford!

·        Training:  participation in local and national leadership trainings.

·        Action:  a public meeting is our public voice.  Each congregation sends strong delegations.  Many congregations also do actions on local neighborhood issues.

·        Relationships:  participation in Clergy Caucus is an important way we build relationships.

·        Board of Directors:  monthly board meetings (clergy leader + lay leader) guide our organization.

 

How can my congregation join?

·        Pastor/Clergy Leader tells the President, Rev. Ronald Davis, Pastor of Hopps Memorial CME, of your intention and the amount your congregation will pay in annual dues.  Phone:  315-478-0191.

·        A member of the ACTS Clergy Caucus can meet with your leadership or trustees.  Contact Clergy Caucus Co-Chairs Rev. Marilyn Wolfe (University UMC) or Rev. Leslie Johnson (Tucker MBC).

What happens when we get to 20 Congregations?

·        The ACTS Clergy Caucus/Board create an inspiring Covenant Event (10-40 per congregation). 

·        The Organizing Process begins in earnest:

o       Local 2-day New Leaders’ Training, 3-7 per cong.:  “Concepts of Community Organizing.”

o       Organizer conducts 10 1-1’s (30 min. ea.) in each congregation.

o       Local ½ day training, 10-50 per cong.:  “Conduct a 6-week Listening Campaign in the Congregation.”

o       Issues Convention:  10-50 per cong.; vote on top 3 issues, based on Listening Campaigns

o       Public Meeting:  1000+ people (20-100 per congregation) meet civic/elected officials for action commitments.
