2008 The monthly meeting of the ABLE Leadership Board will include a presentation by Dwayne T. Patterson (Center for Community Change) on Community Values, which will frame our Faith in Democracy Conversation Training in June. The Faith in Democracy Conversation has a twofold purpose: (1) to delve deeply into our faith, our experience, and our hope for connectedness and to confront what divides us. By doing this we will unleash the energy that comes from practicing hope together in a powerful way through our organizations, and (2) to galvanize a more powerful and effective constituency around our core teams. ********************************************************* Thursday, June
12, 2008 The Gamaliel Foundation African American Leadership Commission will have their 2008 Conference on June 12-13 in Detroit, Michigan. The theme of the conference is “Uniting for Power: Turning Our Learning Into Action”. This conference will lift up and increase the ability of African American Clergy, Leaders and Organizers to organize and build organizations in their metropolitan regions to address issues of social justice. The registration fee is $300 and includes hotel, meals, and training. 2008 The National Commission on ICE Misconduct and Violations of 4th Amendment Rights will have a Public Hearing in the Blue Room of the Train Depot (near Georgia State and Five Points Train Stations). The hearing will examine the impact of recent ICE raids on workers, families, communities, and local economies. Hear testimony from workers and families directly impacted by ICE enforcement. 2008 at 7:00 pm The Faith Alliance of Metro Atlanta will have a forum on “Heeding the Call: The Prophetic Tradition in the African-American Church” at Morehouse College. Panelists include Rev. Dr. Barbara King (Minister of the Hillside Chapel and Truth Center), Rev. Dr. Mark Lomax (Minister of First African Presbyterian Church), and Rev. Dr. Kenneth Samuels (Minister of Victory for the World Church). Dean Lawrence Edward Carter, Sr. (Dean of the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel) will serve as moderator. *********************************************************
