Atlanta and its suburbs are evolving as a region divided. We are divided by race, class, and political boundaries. This is evident in the unbalanced housing, transportation, land use and taxation policies throughout Metro Atlanta. These policies either hinder or facilitate economic and social opportunities for our region’s residents. A coalition of organizations will be hosting Metro Equity Summit of 2006; inviting experts from colleges, universities, seminaries, and organizations who have done local analyses of the issues to participate in the metro Equity Summit. Metro Equity Summit 2006 will be a unique opportunity for diverse communities of faith and influence to come together to envision positive change in communities. Together we will develop strategies to alleviate concentrated poverty and discern ways we can respect natural resources and address issues affecting our beloved regional community.

METRO EQUITY SUMMIT FOR THE METROPOLITAN REGION OF ATLANTA
Dear Community Leader,
We invite you to join us on Tuesday, September 26th, from 11:00 am – 3:30 pm for Metro Equity Summit for the Atlanta Region’s future. We are expecting over 300 leaders from faith communities, community organizations, foundations, political and corporate institutions. Our Gamaliel Foundation project in Atlanta (ABLE) is convening the event because of our concerns for our region (city, suburbs, and our people).
The Summit will be hosted by ABLE/Gamaliel and will identify state and regional policy changes that will enhance the sustainability of the Atlanta Region and challenge the continuing segregation of opportunities that leave most residents without access to those opportunities.
· We intend to use the Summit to develop a powerful platform that represents our collective interests as we head into the fall gubernatorial, state and local elections.
· Gamaliel Foundation (a national organization of regional community organizations) has three Strategic Partners: Professor john a. powell (Ohio State University's Kirwan Institute), Manuel Pastor (Director of the Center for Justice, Tolerance, and Community) and Mr. David Rusk (Author and Urban Policy expert) have agreed to help craft the agenda and present their ongoing research at the Summit to help inform and guide our discussions.
We invite you to attend – and to be a co-sponsor. Co-sponsors are asked to publicize the event, provide some financial support and help in planning. Current co-sponsors include: The Regional Council of Churches of Atlanta, The Atlanta-North Georgia Labor Council, Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, and ABLE/Gamaliel.
With your participation and sponsorship, this event will craft a platform that could benefit all Atlantans and will unite a diverse statewide coalition to create positive change for our communities.
Please feel free to call any one of us to become a sponsor or to ask questions about this event.

Reverend Anthony Motley
President
